Biography

Jack was delivered by C section 2 weeks early in 1995. I noticed in April 2008 he was drinking a lot and was needing to urinate rather frequently. After numerous trips to our GP they referred us to the hospital (I thought he might have got diabetes)

He spent all the summer holiday in hospital undergoing tests, the first was a water deprivation test which was horrible to watch him wanting fluid but not being allowed any. This gave us a diagnosis of diabetes insipidus.

In August that year he had a MRI scan of his brain which found a tumour on his pituitary gland. His pituitary gland was invaded by this growth. In November 2008 he had a biopsy done and 2 days before his 13th birthday was told he had cancer and treatment was needed straight away. He endured 6 weeks of radiotherapy over Christmas and new year, which meant a daily visit to Southampton hospital, this made him very ill and tired. He now takes around 14 tablets a day to keep him healthy which he will need to take for life also has to have testosterone replacement injections every 28 days and a daily injection of growth hormone to keep his bones strong.

Because of this treatment he now needs extra care to do daily things from taking his medication to washing. He has been left with short term memory loss which we have to leave prompts around the house on post it notes.
