BiographyWhen Erin was born she was rushed straight to intensive care and spent first 11 weeks of her life in hospital - due to multi organ failure.
At 6 weeks old it was discovered that she had severe scarring on both retinas which has left her with no central vision, but some peripheral vision.
After she was discharged from hospital her hearing was tested and it was discovered she was profoundly deaf in both ears. Hearing aids did not help so she got a cochlear implant when she was 2 years old and this transformed her life. She hears and understands well when it's on but as she has poor head control it regularly falls off.
Erin is unable to sit unaided, and is a full time wheelchair user.
Erin is extremely happy, likes listening to stories and music and is never happier than when someone is talking or playing with her. Whilst she can't say words she has plenty to say for herself and knows exactly how to get what she wants!!
