Centreing of squares We've had a few squares lately that have been so far off-centre that they have caused a few problems for our quilters. In case anyone is in any doubt, these are the dimensions/placing we need. If any of your design is outside the blue area below (due to being too big or not being centred), it doesn't leave enough room to quilt the square. Our quilters cope by extra tricks like putting extra fabric to bulk it out, but obviously it's best if all the squares conform to these specifications: ![]() Square deadlines We have traditionally had the squares deadline as the last day of each month. However, due to squares coming in right on the deadline unwashed, we are cutting into the quilting time more and more while we sort them out. Also, LQUK has grown so we have more quilt packs to sort out than we did in the past. Therefore, we have decided to move the deadline 3-4 days before the end of the month. Please check your email notifications for sign-ups carefully - this change will be phased in over the next few months :) Patchwork Parade Quilting and Craft Exhibition If you are in or around Manchester this Saturday (17th March 2018), Leanda and Heather will once again be running their stall in aid of LQUK. We would like to thank Leanda and Heather for their massive effort in preparing for this event. Thank you also to everyone who has contributed items for the fair - many have been making lap quilts and bags etc to be sold. Also thank you to those who have donated smaller items of cross stitching which have been incorporated into some of the items. As well as Leanda and Heather's stall, there will be a great exhibition of quilts, cushions, wall hangings and machine embroidery. There will also be a display by Patchwork Parade's Doll Making Clubs, lots of great traders, a charity cushion tombola and raffle, and refreshments. Disabled access and parking are available at the venue. The event will take place this Saturday (17th March 2018) at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham 10.30am-3.30pm. If you are in the area, why not drop in and say hello? :) LQ Calendar 2019 After a year off, Clare Bray is now preparing for the LQUK 2019 Calendar! For those who are newer to LQUK, the calendar has pictures of squares, quilting and children with their quilts and is sold in the autumn with all profits going to LQ. Clare is asking for the following: ------------------------------------------------------- Please send in photos of your favourite squares, of your children with their quilts, of making the quilts, and any imaginative shots eg with pets, stitching outside/in a hot air balloon/in a submarine (you never know) etc. You can send in as many photos as you like and everyone is in with a chance of getting in as it's no more than one main photo per person, and you don't need to be an amazing photographer to enter. Rules: - Photos must be emailed to lovequiltscalendar@gmail.com By emailing pictures of your children or squares to this address you are giving permission for them to be used in the calendar. - Photos from cameras or mobile phones are fine, try to have the file size as large as possible. To photograph squares, ideally do them on a sunny day away from direct sunlight. Photograph from above so that the stitching is straight on in the picture, rather than at an angle. Please leave a margin of unstitched white fabric in the photo around the stitched image as this makes it much easier to use. Don't worry about having too much fabric in the photo as I can crop it, whereas I can't add in fabric if the stitching goes right to the edge of the photo. - Deadline 30th June but it helps if everything isn't left till the last minute so you can email in photos from now! ------------------------------------------------------- Thank you Clare for taking this project on for us! We know past calendars have been very popular! Square News We have received 143 squares since our last update! Many thanks to all those who stitched them! Polycotton Aida We've noticed that quite a few squares stitched on polycotton Aida have come in recently. Please could you check that you are purchasing 100% cotton Aida. As a rule of thumb, if something is quite a lot cheaper than normal, it is usually polycotton. If you're not certain, take a strand from the edge of your square and set fire to it (watch your fingers!) If it burns away to nothing, it's cotton. If it melts, it's polycotton. Polycotton tends to melt under hot irons and we want to avoid damage to the quilters' irons and to the finished quilt. Patterns Thank you very much to Lisa Beckley for donating some patterns suitable for cards. These have been posted to the Files section of our Facebook group. Pattern Index As you know, we have permission from some copyright holders to chart licensed characters for LoveQuiltsUK use only. We post these patterns to the Files section of our Facebook group to keep their audience limited to LoveQuiltsUK stitchers. However, the Facebook Files section can be tedious to search through as there is no way to organise the files. Gaynor has created an index that links straight through to the files and it can be found here: Pattern Index. Remember, you need to be a member of our Facebook group for the links to work.
