Biography

Callie is a twin and is 1 minute older than her brother Sam. We first noticed signs of Callie's disability when she started to walk. Callie really struggled to get up from the floor. After various appointments Callie was diagnosed after a biopsy when she was 3 years old. U.C.M.D. is very rare - 1 in a million kids have it. It affects her skeletal muscles and causes them to be weak. As Callie gets older and bigger she will struggle to carry her own weight. Callie finds it difficult to walk uphill and cannot walk up steps.

However Callie does not let this stop her living life to the full. Callie is in main stream school. She attends various groups inc. Cubs, Swimming and sewing club. Callie likes to enter sports events. Her most recent achievement was a local Aquathlon she swam 50 meters and ran (walked with support) 500 meters. At the moment she is taking part in her school 10k. She has raised £725 in sponsorship for these events. Callies favourite motto is "Don't let what you can't do stop you doing what you can do" (Jon Wooden).
