Thank you

Thank you so much for Alfie's lovely quilt!

It is beautiful and we can see how much work has gone into making it!

Alfie was so excited when he saw his quilt. He particularly loves fireman Sam so the quilt is perfect for him. He has very proudly shown all the members of our family his special 'nee naw blanket'.

Biography

Alfie was born via emergency c-section due to pre-eclampsia. He had stopped growing in the womb and was a tiny 2lb 3oz. He was born blue and not breathing, it took 20 mins of CPR to get Alfie Breathing. Because he was starved of oxygen at birth He was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and recieved cooling treatment in the hospitals NICU.

Alfie was in hospital for 34 days but progressed well. He suffered seizures at first but these were controlled with medication. He had an MRI scan at 7 days old which showed damage to many parts of his brain. The doctors warned us that Alfie would likely be affected by this but they couldn't tell us how or how seriously. It was a case of wait and see.

Alfie has progressed well since then. At first he struggled to feed and has never had a big appetite. But he can now feed himself finger food and enjoys trying new things. He is always smiling and is very affectionate.
Alfie's main area of delay is with his motor skills. He strugges with high tone in his legs and was diagnosed with cerebal palsy just after his 2nd birthday. Although not walking, Alfie has recently started to bottom shuffle around the floor and is loving his new found freedom!
