Thank you

McKenzie (aka little wolf) Ibby and family would like to say a huge thank you to all you amazing heroes for the specular quilts received. They are beautiful. I honestly don't know how between all the individual cross stitchers and quilters but you have managed to capture Mac and Ibby's personalities in their quilts spot on and they love them. They will be treasured

Biography

Ibrahim (Ibby) was born at 26 weeks and at 36 hours old suffered an IVH grade 4 and huge pulmonary hemorrhage. MRI scans later revealed he also had multicystic periventricular leukomalacia, a large porencephaly cyst and microcephaly. Ibby spent 4 months in special care. He had very rocky start to life and was placed with foster carers at 11 months old. We adopted him when he was two years old. Ibby has a very unsafe swallow and had a gastrostomy fitted but his stomach started to fail and 12 months ago we went to Jej feeding. Ibby has epilepsy and this is poorly controlled having tried numerous medications and the Ketogenic diet. Ibby is non mobile, he has good head control. He is also non verbal and has a visual and hearing impairment. Ibby has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, he has limited use of his left arm and left index finger which he puts to excellent use in flicking his glasses off. He has limited hearing in his right ear only and wears a hearing aid. Ibby has had surgery on his right hip twice and is currently on the waiting list to have extensive surgery on his left hip. Like his brother Mac, Ibby is regularly hospitalised with respiratory issues although Ibby tends to recover quickly and without the aggressive treatment Mac needs.

Ibby is registered at our local special needs school where he is incredibly popular although his attendance is often interrupted due to him being unwell. Ibby is also significantly developmentally delayed with a cognitive age of around 2 years. Ibby has been classed as life limited and receives support through our local hospice but like his brother he has defied previous predictions and is busy doing his own thing.

Ibby has astounded us with how much he has been through and how slowly but surely his beautiful personality has emerged.Although Ibby and Mac have very similar diagnosis they are like chalk and cheese. Ibby despite being non verbal is very vocal and the noisier his environment the better. He is our giddy kipper who loves disney movies, dinosaurs and music. He is very flirty and will reel you in with a flutter of his eyes and cheeky grin.
