Biography

Ethan was born prematurely at 28 weeks gestation with non working kidneys. He was a little fighter right from birth! He started on dialysis at 3 months old and continued with this treatment until he was able to have a kidney transplant in 2018 at the age of 2. This kidney transplant allowed him to enjoy a new quality of life he hadn’t had before and was finally able to do simple activities like swimming.

Unfortunately, just 18 months later, at the age of 3, a regular blood test picked up that Ethan had developed leukaemia. He had been under the weather for a few weeks but we were shocked to find out just how poorly he was!
He has now undergone 3 and a half years of gruelling treatment and has reached the end of his treatment but, unfortunately for Ethan and our family, 6 months prior to finishing treatment he was dealt another blow and he was diagnosed with constitutional mismatch repair disorder (CMMRD).
CMMRD is a very rare aggressive genetic disorder which makes you highly susceptible to certain types of cancer, so, although treatment has finished for now it is likely that another cancer may be in Ethan’s future.
For now, we don’t know what the future holds so we continue to make the most of every day, allowing Ethan to experience life and continue to be the happy little boy he has always been!
