BiographyRyan has Down syndrome and was born with an AVSD which is a hole in his heart. This was fixed in 2019. He has had recurring chest infections since birth which has resulted in hospitalisations every couple of months. In 2019 he contracted salmonella sepsis which caused a hypoxic brain injury and he had a stroke. This has also caused him to develop complex epilepsy.
In May 2022 he had a chest infection but was unable to get off oxygen and could not breathe properly when sat up. It was decided after many tests that he needed a tracheostomy which was done in December 2022. He is now oxygen dependent.
Ryan has no mobility, is unable to sit up and is non verbal. He has a curve in his spine also. He is unable to eat or drink and is PEG fed all nutrition.
Due to brain injury he is severely visually impaired.
He is still a cheeky little boy and loves a cuddle and is very sociable. He likes listening to music and stories.
