BiographyDuring pregnancy Faith was diagnosed with an occipital encephalocele. Hers was very large and severe and was fully filled with brain tissue. During the pregnancy I was repeatedly advised to terminate my pregnancy as Faith's chance of surviving the pregnancy was minimal and I was told less that 1 in a million chance she would survive the pregnancy and birth process.
Faith being the cheeky girl she is didn't wait for her c section, she burst into the world very quickly and came out breathing on her own absolutely a miracle. On day 2 of life she had major brain surgery to remove all the exposed damaged brain tissue which was about a third of her brain, which had turned toxic. Faith also had sepsis. By some pure miracle she survived it all.
At 2 weeks old we bought Faith home from hospital and were told to enjoy the little time we would have with her. Faith is severely disabled and has many medical conditions that affect her daily life. We have nearly lost Faith on multiple occasions due to her severe drug resistant epilepsy. However Faith is a fighter and she continues to keep fighting and she will be 5 in January.
She does face many challenges in life but she is incredibly intelligent and despite what the medical professionals thought she is exceeding all expectations with her movement, being able to sit, crawl and play with familiar toys independently. We are working on standing which she can do with support and taking steps. I am still hopeful one day that she will be able to walk independently. I am so proud of my beautiful, cheeky, resilient and brave little warrior.
