Biography

Katy was born in August 2014. While I was in hospital I noticed a red mark on Katy`s left eyelid, which I was told was a birthmark. For the first 2 weeks Katy didn't cry but made us aware of what she wanted by making a little cute sound.

In November 2014 Katy ended up in hospital with bronchitis and after that Katy was in and out of hospital with chest problems. At around 15 months old the doctors started to listen to me and agreed Katy had asthma. Katy seemed to spend more time in hospital than she did at home.

Katy also had delays in rolling over, sitting up and learning to crawl - Katy didn't crawl until 2 weeks before her 1st birthday. Katy also couldn't walk till she was about 17 months old. At 2 Katy wasn't able to say words and had to go to speech and language therapy which she still attends. At 3 Katy was sent to Sheffield Children's Hospital due to having a droopy eyelid. After lots of trips backwards and forwards the doctors said Katy had congenital ptosis of the left eyelid but the doctors couldn't do anything due to Katy`s birthmark. Katy has to have an eye test every 6 months and is short sighted. It was than acknowledged that Katy has phonological disorder and behaviour problems.

As a family we have to have set routine for Katy as she doesn`t manage change and can have meltdowns. Katy has anxiety which can make things difficult at times. If there are any changes in Katy`s routine we have to give her notice so she might be able to cope. I have had to go up to school on occasions just to give Katy a cuddle and reassurance that everything will be OK.

Katy is a sweet little girl who is very caring and whom we love very much.
