BiographyFrom birth Jodie has experienced difficulties with sensory processing and refusing certain foods when weaning onto solids.This was very challenging. Jodie showed overwhelming emotions when situations were out of her control or out of routine and this led to us getting advice from a paediatric specialist from the age of 4. It took a long time to get Jodie's diagnosis of ASD due to the pandemic, but eventually this came and was not unexpected. It has, however, allowed us a better understanding of Jodie's needs and how to best help her.
Jodie has been home educated from 4 years old until the current date. This has allowed Jodie to thrive without the restrictions that mainstream school can bring. However, now that we have a full diagnosis for all of Jodie's needs we have also been able to apply for an educational health and care plan and Jodie is due to start some short transitional sessions into a specialist school in September which naturally she is anxious about but also very excited to try.
Jodie likes nothing better than to snuggle in bed or on the sofa with her cats and teddies in order to regulate her emotions and as a calming strategy. I just wanted to say that a beautiful quilt crafted for Jodie will bring her so much comfort and joy and will be received so gratefully and with heartfelt appreciation.
Jodie has suffered since birth with recurrent tonsillitis and problems with her ears, nose and throat and has just had her tonsils removed. Jodie also struggles with pain in her knees (bilateral patella alta). It basically means that both of her kneecaps are positioned higher than normal in relation to the thigh bone. This causes Jodie mobility problems, instability, daily pain and she is at a high risk of dislocations. Jodie finds comfort from heat pads/hot water bottles alongside a nice warm quilt so this will be a wonderful gift for Jodie that will be used daily and bring her both physical and mental comfort.
