Biography

Courtney was born in 2007. She was always a bright bubbly happy little girl, loved gardening, making friends & art work! She sailed through nursery & 2yrs into primary school she took poorly, no warnings she just became seriously unwell over 48hrs. She was taken to the doctors when she was then blue lighted to hospital, slipping into diabetic ketoacidosis, then diagnosed type 1 diabetic a few days later.
Courtney took this in her stride, learned the ropes, gave herself her own injections, she took her new life of carb counting & insulin injections like a duck to water, until her early teens! Courtney started secondary school, was teased for wearing a "suitcase" and she was then picked on daily. Courtney was miserable to the point she ignored her type 1 & risked her life.

We pulled her out of school, were worried for her future, at 16yrs old she took the news from her hospital team that her hba1c levels were unrecordable and if she didn't pull herself together fast she wouldn't see summer! In that instant Courtney turned her life around. She enrolled onto a beauty therapy course in college, started the gym for her mental health, passed her level 1 & 2 with distinctions, level 3 is ongoing, she's placed top 3 in makeup competitions, she's travelled to Tokyo, Japan with her college, and managed her type 1 alone perfectly & best of all her hba1c levels have been the best they ever have been since diagnosis for almost 1yr.

She's back to loving life, proud of her achievements and now accepts her illness is part of her! her JDRF diabetic bear given at diagnosis has been on her journey throughout childhood, I was hoping a personal Love quilt would now be a massive part & huge comfort to her in her journey into & through adult life.
