News 12 Apr 2012 - 23 Apr 2012Quilt News The following quilts are under construction: Jessica S (Alison), Dean B (Helle), Samuel W (Victoria), Harry (Pam) and Amelia Rose (Julia). Isla's quilt was delivered, quilted by Lesley:  Kita has completed an emergency quilt using squares from last year's Hello Kitty Stitch-a-long - thank you Kita!  The next six months Gaynor and Katherine met in Lincolnshire this week, and spent two days sorting out fabric for quilts up to the end of September. We have a couple of odd duvets to buy for backings, but the majority of the quilts are sorted out and now just waiting for squares to come in :) Here we are sorting out fabric:  Fabric donations After long and considered discussion, we have decided to stop asking for fabric donations from April 2012. There are many reasons for this - LQUK has grown, and there is limited storage space at Katherine's house. Some fabric we have been sent in the past has been unsuitable (too small/wrong blend/difficult to match to theme of child's quilt). And the overwhelming reason is that we can make funds go much further by buying directly from the USA. We are also, since being granted charitable status, now able to purchase some items such a duvet covers wholesale in the UK. Although it can seem impersonal to send money, it can actually be more personal, as it allows us to purchase material tailored to the child's theme/interests. We thank everyone who has contributed by donating fabric in the past. Laundrywoman of the year! We would like to thank Elaine Thomas (Gaynor's mum!) who washed and dried over 220 yards of fabric in less than a week for us. It had to be done quickly before Gaynor left for Lincolnshire and Elaine worked really hard. Many thanks for your efforts, Elaine. However, normal service is now resumed! :) Quilt News 3 quilts have been delievered since our last update: Shona G's quilt (Flowers with butterflies and dragonflies) - quilted by Joyce:  Isla's quilt (Sea Life) - quilted by Lesley: Isla's quilt has been delivered, but we haven't received a photo yet - her mum is getting Isla ready to go into hospital for an operation next week and also has a 5 week old newborn! In Memoriam We are very sorry to tell you that Benjamin S who received the Cars quilt in January has passed away :( We send our deepest condolences to his mum Lyndsay and all Ben's family. Thank you to the quilters and all the stitchers who have worked so hard on these quilts :) Erin who received a quilt from us in January 2012 is in hospital at the moment, we received this photo of her:  We have also heard that Tyler Lee and Finley G have had a difficult week and we send our best wishes to all LQ children who are in hospital at the moment. Emergency Quilt New quilter Gill has completed this quilt with squares from our 2011 Hearts Stitch-a-long. We will keep this quilt in stock until needed - thank you very much Gill.
