Love Quilts Canada One of our stitchers, Dana Wagner, is hoping to set up a branch of Love Quilts for Canada. This would be the fifth current branch of LQ along with the UK, USA, Australia and Brazil branches (previously a group existed in Germany. Please see this site for details: Easyfundraising.org.uk Quilting Fayre Leanda and Heather will once again be running a stall to fundraise for us at the 7th Annual Patchwork Quilting and Craft Fayre on Mar 16 in Oldham. There will be an exhibition of quilts, cushions, wall hangings, fabric dolls and machine embroidery. There will also be stall from great traders, a cushion tombola and refreshments. The fayre will be held in Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham OL1, 1UT from 10.30am onwards. There is on site parking and disabled access. Pop in and say hello if you're in the area! Superhero squares from Poland What a brilliant package LQUK received from Poland to start 2019 - containing 111 Superhero Logo squares! There are 40 Green Lantern logos, 33 Captain America logos and 38 The Flash logos if I have counted correctly! These squares have been stitched by the Comfort Pillow group in Poland, to help with our efforts to make quilts for this very popular theme. The plan is to put one of each design on each Superhero quilt, to be mixed in with the character designs being sent in by the LQUK stitchers. JustTextGiving ending For the last 5 years, we have been able to take text message donations via JustTextGiving. Unfortunately, JustTextGiving is coming to an end on 31st March and therefore we have received this method of donating to us from our website. We started back in July 2008 when Kat completed the quilting for Faye's quilt. A handful of stitchers have been with us since the very first quilt, with so many more friends joining us in the last 10 years. It's lovely to have you all with us. Here's to the next 10 years! It's safe to say that 2018 has been another busy year for LoveQuiltsUK. We reached the 1000 quilts delivered milestone on 27th March 2018 and we've now received over 15,000 squares. Here are some statistics on what we have achieved in 2018: Total squares received in 2018: 2312 squares Total quilts delivered in 2018: 190 quilts (2 of these were emergency quilts and 64 were backfilled quilts) This brings our overall total to 1138 quilts since 2008. 2018 was another record year, with 190 quilts just beating last year's total of 189 :) A massive THANK YOU to every one of you who have sent in your lovely squares, quilted them together into fab quilts, or fundraised for us this year. We thank you for your generosity in donating your time, materials and kindness :) We have a few people that we would like to mention specifically for their efforts: Kat Kat has dealt with a massive number of squares this year, despite still being in full-time job with very long hours, well done Kat for keeping everything in order! Gaynor Gaynor has continued her efforts in sourcing fabric, doing the administration and maintaining the website. Well done, Gaynor. Mrs T Mrs T (Gaynor's Mum) has washed a lot of the fabric and duvet covers used for LQUK once again this year, before sending out to quilters. Clare Bray - Calendar A massive thank you to Clare Bray for organising, designing our fundraising calendar this year, and also getting it printed - a great effort from Clare and such a professional finish to the calendar! Emergency Quilts Many thanks to Leanda and Heather for continuing to store the emergency quilt stash and sending them out quickly. Also thanks to the others who are storing emergency quilts they have made. Cards Thank you to Sandra who has organised the cards we send out with the quilts via our Facebook group. Labels and cards for backfilled quilts It's certainly been the year of the backfill with 64 quilts being backfilled this year! A big thank you to those who have undertaken labels for backfilled quilts at short notice this year - this made an extra 64 quilts possible. Also, thank you to those who sent in cards to be held in reserve for backfilled quilts, it is really appreciated. Permission from copyright holders to chart patterns Many thanks to Clare Bray for her efforts in getting permission to allow us to chart our own patterns from the owners of copyrighted characters. This year she achieved permission from Warner Bros to chart Harry Potter characters and DC Superheroes, something she has been working on for a few years. Thank you, Clare! Pattern designers Grateful thanks to those who have charted patterns for us, particularly active in 2018 have been: Lisa Beckley, Beth Filmer, Deborah Clarke , Gemma Harris, Merete Langseth, Harriet Morrison, Rebecca Powers and Abigail Short. Your work has made it much easier for stitchers to stitch squares for (in particular) the popular Superheroes, Star Wars and Disney themes and has made a big difference! This year we also developed the Pattern Listing page on our website to help stitchers navigate the patterns held in the Facebook Files section more easily. Superhero squares Many thanks to Magda Pietrzak who has been running a campaign for Superhero squares among her Polish contacts and others. They are due to arrive in early 2019 and will help us to complete quilts for children requesting this popular theme. Thank you, Magda! Quilt repair We'd like to particularly thank the LQ quilters for their help, advice and action in the repair of Riley J's quilt. It was a heroic effort with an excellent result. Thank you again. Auditor We'd like to thank Jean of Swansea who very kindly audited our accounts for free at the beginning of 2018. We'd also like to thank David Moss of Swansea for assisting with our bank account. Fundraising We cannot thank those who have undertaken fundraising for us this year enough - we really could not keep going without you! THANK YOU!! Support from Businesses A big thank you to Morton Post Office for their continuing support in 2018 - always a cheerful smile and a chat and £1 off every parcel for LQUK. Thank you very much! Thank you Katzstitch who have catered to LQUK stitchers by selling Aida in our required size (13 x 13 inches) and offering a discount on top. Thank you to Kim Hubble who has offered discount Aida via our Facebook group. We are grateful to BTMyDonate and Just Text Giving from Vodafone for allowing us to accept credit/debit card and SMS donations for free. d In Memoriam We would like to pay tribute to the following children who sadly passed away in 2018: Darcee Ella C, Grace H, Harvey T 1, Melody D, Owen M, Riley J, Skyla C, Theo S. We were also very sad to hear of our stitcher Susan Miller's passing. We send their families our very best wishes and hope that 2019 will bring them happier times. And finally... No year review would be complete without taking a look back at the 190 quilts that were delivered this year.
