Last week, Gaynor managed to get away for a short break in Lincoln and called in to see Kat on the way. Due to Covid, they hadn't met in person since 2019, so it was good to catch up (over a hedgehog that Kat is fostering!) We recently completed 2000 quilts! What a lot of great work has been done over the years - in August, LoveQuiltsUK will be 15 years old. Thank you so much to everyone for contributing to these 2000 quilts. LQUK Calendar 2024 Thank you to everyone for your contributions of photographs for our calendar for 2024. The deadline for submissions has now passed and Clare will be starting to put it all together very soon. The calendar will be on sale in the autumn - we'll announce here and on our Facebook group when it is available for order. Copyright character permissions Clare has been working on securing permissions to use children's favourite characters and has recently managed to arrange limited permissions for SpongeBob and Paw Patrol. This has involved lengthy correspondence and we would like to extend our grateful thanks to Clare for sorting this out. Thank you also to Gemma, Merete and Beth for putting these great patterns together.  AC Squares We have a lot of AC squares at the moment that we are struggling to place on quilts. We'd like to remind stitchers that low priority categories are ones that we don't have requests from children for - please stick to the "Normal Priority" and particularly the "High Priority" categories. Fundraising Thank you very much to those who have been making items for sale to raise money (and those who have bought them, of course!) Cross Stitch Magazines for sale Elaine Martin is currently selling back issues of Cross Stitching magazines with all proceeds to LQUK. Drying squares Thanks to everyone for their efforts with washing their squares before posting which is really important for streamlining the process of getting quilt packs out to quilters. Please could you make sure that the squares are completely dry before posting - we've had a few instances lately (particularly during the hot weather) of mildew spots developing on damp squares in transit. Clare has managed to secure limited permission for Charlie F's forthcoming quilt, and we hope to extend this in the future. Thank you, Clare! LoveQuiltsUK 2024 Calendar Clare Bray has started collecting photos for our 2024 calendar! Here are the details: I'm now taking entries for the next LQUK calendar! We do these every other year and 100% of the profits go to LQUK. Please send in photos of your children with their quilts, your stitching and/or your quilting - can't wait to see them! Rules: 1) Please email photographs to lovequiltscalendar@gmail.com Photos must be emailed to that address to enter, not posted on Facebook (and please don't download them from fb and then email as it shrinks the file size). **IMPORTANT** By emailing photos to this address you are giving permission for them to be published in the calendar and used in any social media posts promoting the calendar, including on my own shop website and social media. 2) You can enter as many pictures as you like (I don't feature more than one major picture per person so everyone has a good chance). It's helpful for me for people to send in lots of photos (of good quality, see below) as then I can match themes together. 3) Parents - we love pictures of the children with their quilts - I usually get all the kids entered into the calendar (with any not on the main pages on the back page). So please do enter pictures of your child if you'd like to. You only can't enter the child if they've had a main page photo in the calendar before. 4) Please take pictures of your stitched squares straight on, ironed, in good lighting and with a reasonable border of blank fabric around the stitched area. I'm a designer not a magician and if you send in a picture of a crumpled square in half light at a weird angle I can't make it look good ? Photos don't have to be professional quality, anyone can take the time to make a nice snap of their stitching ? 5) As well as straight photos of stitched squares, get imaginative with shots of your stitching in the garden, on a submarine, or in the international space station (I guarantee a slot to anyone who does this), or with your pets, plus pictures of quilting. 6) Deadline for photos is 30 June 2023. 7) I reply to all emails so if you haven't heard anything back in a week, give me a shout (but do give it that long as I'm fitting it round work). 8 ) As always the judge is entirely open to bribery, particularly in the form of chocolate. This was the 14th year of LoveQuiltsUK - let's have a look back! It was gradually back to normal this year after the lockdown periods of the Covid pandemic, although we are currently struggling a bit with the Royal Mail strikes holding up squares and quilts from being delivered. Hopefully we will be back to normal in early 2023. Here are some statistics on what we have achieved in 2022: Total squares received in 2022: 2196 squares We are now almost at the 25,000 square mark! Total quilts delivered in 2022: 186 quilts (5 of these were emergency quilts and 45 were backfilled quilts) There are a also a number of quilts waiting to be posted that we held back due to the Royal Mail strikes in December. This brings our overall total to 1921 quilts since 2008. :) A massive THANK YOU to every one of you who have sent in your lovely squares, quilted them together into fab quilts, created patterns, fundraised for us or supported us in any way this year. Your continuing support is very much appreciated. We recognise that we are in difficult economic times and we are so grateful for the steadfast support we receive! We have a few people that we would like to mention specifically for their efforts this year: Kat Kat has received and uploaded all of the thousands of squares received (no small task!) and sent out quilt packs to quilters each month. This has been done while working in a full-time caring job with very long hours. Well done Kat for everything you do for LQUK! Gaynor Gaynor has continued her efforts in sourcing fabric, doing the administration and generally keeping the ship afloat! There has also been a large number of backfilled quilts that Gaynor has dealt with this year, also while being in full-time work. Well done, Gaynor. Mrs T All fabric is pre-washed prior to going out to quilters to account for colour runs and cotton shrinkage. Mrs T (Gaynor's Mum) has washed a fair proportion of the duvet covers used for LQUK once again this year. Now in her 80s, she is still an enthusiastic supporter! Thank you Mrs T for all your help. Leanda and Heather Leanda and Heather support Gaynor and Kat a lot in the background - for example tracking down duplicate uploads of squares, spotting duplicate signups, locating squares that have jumped on to the wrong quilt page on the website, tidying up the contents of the kids' webpages, approving new members to the Facebook group, helping to suggest sets of squares for backfills and more. As well as this, they have also been fundraising for us (see below) Cards Thank you Sandra (Wright) for organising the cards we send out with the quilts via our Facebook group, and chased them up so that they all come in on time. She also has organised sufficient cards for the many backfilled quilts we have done this year (see below). Sandra is also very good at spotting duplicate signups, even when the same pattern appears in two different places. (eg different magazines) Backfilled quilts A big thank you to Jan Garton who has created many of the labels for backfilled quilts this year, sometimes at very short notice!. This made an extra 45 quilts possible. Also thank you to the quilters who have stitched the labels for their own backfilled quilts. Pattern creators Thank you so much for those who created patterns for our Pattern listing this year. We have a large collection of legal charts now which makes popular themes such as Disney and Harry Potter possible. There was a particular memorable drive on Encanto patterns in recent weeks. Pattern listing We maintain a separate Pattern Listing of patterns created for LQUK. Christina McDonald has continued to keep it maintained and linking a picture of stitched patterns so that stitchers can browse them more easily. A big thank you to Christina for keeping this up to date for us! Chart permission A massive thank you to Clare Bray for her high success rate in approaching companies for permission to chart our own patterns of their copyrighted characters - this year she added Hey Duggee to our now considerably long list which includes big hitters such as Disney, Marvel, DC etc. Unicorn Stitchalong Merete designed another lovely Stitch-a-long for us - many stitchers are busily working away on it. Thank you very much for using your talents to design us another fab stitch-a-long Merete! Emergency Quilts Many thanks to Leanda and Heather for continuing to store the emergency quilt stash and sending them out quickly, sometimes at extremely short notice. Also thanks to the others who are storing emergency quilts they have made. Fundraising We have managed to keep funds at comfortable levels this year. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to funds this year, it is really appreciated - we really could not carry on without you! A special mention to the below who organised specific fundraising efforts (Please let us know if we've left anyone out so we can add you) A massive thank you to the above for their fantastic efforts on our behalf. Easyfundraising Thank you to everyone who has used the Easyfundraising.co.uk this year, and also those who have taken part in the Easyfundraising "extra" competitions like Spin the Wheel in November and Advent Calendar in December. This year we received a huge £1185.57 from Easyfundraising - Quarter 4 was almost half this amount, so thank you very much for remembering us in your Christmas shopping. Amazon Smile We also raised £142.34 from Amazon Smile this year! Massive thank you for everyone who has quietly sent in cash, cheques, Paypal donations, etc. this year it has been very gratefully received. Thank you so much once again to you all!
