Magazine Fame
We are appearing in a four-page spread (p.22-25) in Cross Stitch Collection magazine this month (Issue 253). Available in WHSmith. Thank you to everyone who sent in photos for this article!


Any Child Squares (High/Low Priority)
As we have been discussing on our Facebook group recently, we would like to start making our Any Child squares a little more targeted. Many squares we have are so beautiful, but if a child doesn't request that particular theme, we can have them on our hands for a long time. We'd much rather that squares are going into quilts to make children happy :)

Gaynor has added to the Any Child Squares page which themes are the most popular by marking categories "High Priority" and "Low Priority" to give stitchers an indication (this will change periodically). As a general rule though, you can't go wrong with Princesses or Superheroes! We have so many requests in our lottery system for those themes. Having more squares on popular theme makes it much easier to "backfill" quilts.

We have now raised over £1000 for LoveQuiltsUK just for a couple of clicks before shopping we were going to do anyway! Thank you so much to everyone who supports us in this way on an ongoing basis, it really is keeping the LQUK coffers looking healthy!

Gift Aid
Gaynor has put in the Gift Aid claim for 2014 and received £395 back from HMRC. If you're a UK taxpayer, please fill in the form which is here: Gift Aid declaration form and either post it to Kat with your next squares or scan it and email it to us :)


Wholesale purchases
One of Gaynor's hobbies(!) is to keep an eye on the relative prices of fabric in the USA/UK to make sure that the LQUK finances are spent in the best possible way and stretch as far as possible! Generally, the plain fabrics are ordered by post from the USA, the border fabrics are brought back in person by Gaynor from holidays in the USA and stockpiled, or ordered from ebay.com. Some border fabrics are bought from Lee Mill Fabrics in Swansea, and a minority from other UK suppliers. Backing fabrics are polycotton duvet covers from a variety of sources (ASDA/Tesco/ebay etc)

Regarding the sashings fabrics, we have now reached a point where, taking into account import duties and shipping, it is now slightly cheaper to order from the UK wholesale distributor. Gaynor has convinced them to take LQUK on as a wholesale customer and we are in the process of placing our first order. Gaynor will be approaching other wholesalers soon too. Watch this space!


Kat's whereabouts
Throughout the history of LoveQuiltsUK, Kat has not been working while bringing up her family, so we have enjoyed the luxury of having squares received posted to the website the same day they are received. Kat now has a part-time job, and for the month of September only, has two part-time jobs, one of which starts very early in the morning. Therefore, she has less time to devote to her duties of uploading squares, washing squares, and getting quilt packs ready to go out.

Please could stitchers be patient about their squares appearing on the website, and refrain from sending "has my square arrived yet" emails. Kat will put them up as soon as she can, and it will be within a couple of days. :) We know it is a tense time when squares are at the mercy of the postal system, but the more emails Kat has to answer, the less time she has to put squares on the website! For the same reason, it also is a massive help when stitchers wash their squares before sending them in. Stitchers are getting better at doing this, but Kat still has a significant number of unwashed squares to deal with. Washing instructions are here: Washing Instructions (at the bottom)
