BiographyJakoby was born 3 weeks early as he just couldn't wait to get out and meet everyone! He was born weighing a healthy 7lb 3oz but he struggled to breathe and was taken to NICU. He was kept in NICU for suspected sepsis of the lungs ad it was thought he had inhaled some fluid. We were allowed to bring him home at 10 days old, which also happened to be boxing day... Having him home with us was the best belated Christmas present mum, dad and big sisters could have asked for. He thrived and seemingly had no more problems so we thought he was out of the woods.
It came as a huge shock when we received a phone call from the hospital saying that they needed to discuss something to do with his heel prick test, we were then told the results showed he has cystic fibrosis. There is no family history of the condition in either sides of our family so it took a lot of time to sink in. Jakoby was put on medication straight away, had blood tests and we were shown how to give physiotherapy. He never made a fuss about taking his medicine having treatment and was a very happy baby. Last year he grew pseudomonas on a cough swab and had to be given nebulised antibiotics, again he took it all in his stride. In October last year we welcomed his little sister Willow, who also has cf, into the world. Jakoby stepped into his big brother role with ease and is always keen to help take care of her whenever he can. She has also recently been given a pep mask to use and Jakoby sits with her and does his to show her it's ok and that there's no need to be scared. He's a happy, cheeky little boy, he never moans about taking his medication or doing treatment and too say we are very proud of him would be an understatement. He's fighting CF with a huge smile on his face!
