BiographyBethie was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years old. I had a healthy pregnancy and a normal 1st birth.
She weighed 6lb 13oz and we stayed in for 2 days.
Bethie had bronchilitus at 6 weeks, but other than that had a fairly healthy 12 months.
Once I changed her to cows milk, she started having extreme diarrhoea. Time after time I would explain the symptoms to our HV, but sadly they didn't pick anything up.
During this time her chest had become an issue and she was visiting the GP for a persistent, but non productive cough.
I had figured out her bowel issues were diet related, so had started avoiding diary products.
They decided to test her for celiac, but that came back negative and the paediatrician recommended we tested for CF.
They were quite sure it wasn't as Bethie was at 75% percentile for weight and 50% height.
We had sweat tests and they were positive. While waiting for the results Bethie experienced a rectal prolapse.
We are then informed that Bethie had CF.
Fast forward 16 years, Bethie has been very lucky and her health has remained very stable for a long time.
She has had only 4 IV admissions, and copes very well with the demands CF brings.
The last few years things seemed to have increased and more medications are now in place, but she has a very positive outlook and doesn't allow anything to upset her.
This June, Bethie is doing her first fundraiser for CF and doing a skydive!
