BiographyRyleigh was born with Spina Bifida and hydrocephalas. She was diagnosed with this at our 23 week scan, the prognosis wasn’t great from a medical professionals point of view and they were pushing us for an abortion right to the end (something I later learned from other mums can be the norm) but Ryleigh came out fighting and has never stopped.
Her nick name was Warrior.
She had her back closed at 36 hours old and a vp shunt fitted at 5 days old.
Ryleigh was also born with bilateral talipes and still wears her boots and bar at night.
At 8 months old her shunt blocked and had to be replaced.
She also has bowel and bladder problems and arnold chairi malformation but these are not currently effecting her but are being managed, she still has a lot of medical appointments and check ups and is smashing all of the things they said she would never do like sitting up and moving.
She has recently started to crawl despite having no feeling in her legs from the waist down or being able to weight-bare.
She is now 3 and a typical threenager with bags of attitude. She is a full time wheelchair user and is a whizz in it. She loves shopping and technology and having her nails painted. She loves playing with other children playing tag and keeps up with them. She is daredevil and will try anything and is always smiling despite her daily struggles - someone who met her for the first time last week described as inspirational and she truly is x
