BiographySophia was Discharged from hospital as a healthy, happy baby at 2 days old..
Within an hour of being home from the hospital, Sophia suffered a cardiac arrest in her father's arms.
We managed to get help just in time and was rushed to our local hospital, via ambulance where she was taken to resus.
After 8 hours on the resus table, a team came from Birmingham children's hospital and transferred her there. Sophia was so poorly, they didn't think she would survive the journey, thankfully she did.
Sophia was diagnosed on the friday evening (8th Jan 2016) with cavsd and coarctation of the aorta... Sophia needed emergency heart surgery and had it the following morning!
Sophia spent her first 5 and a half months of life in Hospital, and underwent a 2nd urgent heart surgery at 11 weeks of age, as she had grew a blockage in her heart which had to be removed.
After May 2016, from a cardiac perspective Sophia was quite stable and enjoyed a lovely year at home, celebrating her first Christmas and first birthday too.
Then in June 2017, Sophia required further heart surgery, her AVSD repair. Sophia had this surgery on the 23rd June. Sadly Sophia's body rejected the new circulation and she went into severe right sided heart failure and became very sick. We were even offered to withdraw all medical care and go down the palliative care route.... We chose to continue to fight and I am so glad we did.
After 2 more heart surgeries (3 in 3 weeks) the surgeons managed to get the pressures even in her heart.
Fast forward 8 months, Sophia is now back home and living life to the full! With her gorgeous smile, always beaming.
We are unsure what the future holds, surgery wise... But we have an amazing cardiac team and a strong little fighter.
