BiographySamuel was our unexpected miracle baby and an amazing joy after having 2 girls to be blessed with a boy. When he was born he spent time in special care as he wouldn’t feed and his blood sugars kept dropping and he suffered from severe reflux and projectile vomiting. He was a very fussy baby who didn’t like being cuddled and would startle really easily and hated loud noises. We first noticed something was different when he was 6-12 months and he wouldn’t smile or babble at people and would actively look away. At age 2 he was diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorder after seeing the hospital paediatric team and all his little quirks made sense and we could handle this as a family. Samuel is an amazing young man who loves football and any sports and has a wicked sense of humour. He really struggles at school as he is very ridgid and needs a strict routine to be able to cope and finds the noise and social situations difficult at times. He only has a few hours sleep a night and has challenging meltdowns if things don’t go as planned. He is beginning to learn how to deal with his autism and know when things are getting to much and will ask for his sensory toys or ear defenders to help him cope. He is currently being assessed for ADHD/OCD but takes this all in his stride and makes us proud everyday .
