Biography

Riley has always been a tricky child to manage . With lots of therapy in place we never got a diagnosis for many of his struggles until he was 8 years old

At 3 he was diagnosed with congenital myotonia a rare muscle disease and every symptom and difficulty was put down to his brain . Riley has 2 other siblings with the same diagnosis

Then suddenly Riley started to sleep, a lot. After tests for narcolepsy came back clear, it was noted he was emotionally immature and would /should outgrow it , but he became worse , sleeping most of the day at school, not even waking when lifted into a wheelchair

But we always knew there was something else wrong. Being told it was personality trait we have battled on . Watching our beautiful boy struggle with normal day to day life was heart breaking. Finally at age 7/8 when his struggles at school became more obvious as the gap between him and his peers was larger,Riley was diagnosed with a severe language disorder and autism . Finally the puzzle pieces were put together and now with answers we are trying to help our beautiful boy make the most of his abilities and strengths and cope with the world around him.

It's still early days of diagnosis but together we are learning and trying new techniques. Finally we are all understanding this unique little boy far better and we are far more positive for the future x
