BiographyKian was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallots during my pregnancy. He was born via emergency c-section and taken straight to the neonatal unit at the LGI. At 7 days old he had emergency surgery to have a BT shunt fitted which blocked straight after surgery and a larger one was fitted. At 12 months he had a further BT Shunt which also failed at 7 days and he spent 7 days on life support with 2 emergency cardiac catheter surgeries for a stent and balloons. It was following this he was tested for Alagille Syndrome.
He had open heart surgery at 21 months to try to widen the main pulmonary artery and since then has been having 9 to 12 monthly cardiac catheters to balloon the pulmonary arteries.
Due to Kian's condition he gets extremely breathless, fatigued and tired and cannot keep up with his friends. He also has a very poor appetite caused by the Alagille Syndrome with eating disorder food aversions/restricted eating due to the anxiety caused by his extensive medical history. He is due his next cardiac catheter in February which was delayed due to requiring some dental work under general anaesthetic at the end of January.
