Biography

Phoebe is one of twins born at 30 weeks. She has a twin brother who is doing well. She was 2 pounds 11 ounces when she was born and did very well for the first week of life. On day 7 she developed a rare disease called NEC which meant her intestinal tract was necrotising inside of her. She went into septic shock and they said they would have to operate on her or she would die. They did not expect her to survive the surgery, but she pulled through and after weeks of being on life support she started to breathe on her own. Phoebe stabilised for a few weeks but then had trouble with her digestive tract and had to have more surgery. It was during this time she had a brain haemorrhage and went once again into septic shock. She was diagnosed with a severe brain injury and was not expected to live very long.

Phoebe has surpassed everyone's expectation and will be 12 this year.
She has been through multiple hospitalisations; most recently she has been an inpatient since January 2020 and is still in hospital now.
She has surprised the doctors in many ways, not least with her ability to communicate and understand everything around her. She is strength personified and amazes me daily.
