Biography

Talia was born in Blackpool Victoria hospital via emergency c-section at 32+ weeks weighing in at 3 pounds. Her heart and lungs were in a bad shape and she was taken to Preston hospital to be treated. She was on a lot of medications to help her put weight on and grow. She stayed in NICU for over 1 month.

When Talia came home 2 days before Christmas in 2019 she was happy and healthy weighing close to 5 pounds. Everything was going great, she was growing and healthy.

I started noticing a few months after she was born that her head wasn't growing and she was vomiting up all her milk. Then one morning I woke to find her covered in sick. I took her to Walk in and they sent me to the Children's Assessment Unit at Blackpool Victoria. They ran bloods and other tests and it came back that she had acute liver and kidney failure. At around 4 in the afternoon that same day she started having cluster seizures for hours. All the doctors were finding it hard to stop them. The doctor came and spoke to me and said they did a brain scan on Talia and it came back that she had severe brain deterioration. A lot of her brain tissue was missing and he said she probably won't live longer than a week. Staff from Brian House asked me what I wanted for her, my wishes etc. At that time I was broken but I made the decision to sign a DNR and prioritise comfort over prolonging life.

Over the course of the following year Talia had many tests and has been diagnosed with multiple disabilities from severe microcephaly to being lactose intolerant. I had no idea from day one she had any disabilities but I was told she was probably having seizures from the moment she came home.

Talia is now 17 months old and still fighting though everything. We have frequent appointments with OT, hospitals for her eyes and ears as well as other appointments with Brian House Children's Hospice and Portage. Talia has a life expectancy but it's not normal. So it could be in a week or a month when the worst day of our lifes will come.

Talia struggles with everything. She's still like a newborn but she's the most beautiful baby I could have asked for and she has come a very long way since birth and I'm a super proud mummy . My wishes still stand to this day for Talia to have a happy life and future, a life without pain or sadness, just spend every day with a new adventure. Talia will be celebrating her second year in November .
