BiographyI had an unremarkable pregnancy and birth with Isla but, by the time she was 4 months old, it was clear her development was behind other children her age. When she started having suspected seizures she was admitted to hospital for tests. She had multiple EEG’s, an MRI and a lumbar puncture. Eventually, she was diagnosed with GLUT1 deficiency syndrome, a rare genetic condition which causes the brain to be starved of glucose (its energy source).
The condition has caused Isla to have severe developmental delays. She cannot crawl/walk/stand/talk but, despite her challenges, she is an absolute joy and loves playing with her older brother and sister.
