BiographyOlivia was born at 33 weeks in the house. Olivia decided she wanted to be born feet first. Daddy and the next-door neighbour had to deliver her as the ambulance didn't arrive until she was 13 minutes old. Olivia was admitted into the scbu unit of the maternity hosp until she was 3 weeks old, she was then allowed home.
She was only home 1 week and became unwell with a chest infection and was admitted to picu in the children's hospital. Olivia was then moved to a ward after 2 weeks and was allowed home on the Sunday. On the Tuesday Olivia was blue lighted back into picu. In October 2011, Olivia's ventilator was turned off as there was nothing else they could do for her and our families gathered and said goodbye to her. Olivia was never expected to make it and surprised everyone with her sheer determination. Olivia remained in picu until the end of November 2011 and then was moved onto a ward where she remained until June 2012 and went home for the first time 2 weeks before her first birthday.
Olivia still has her feeding tube and has feeds for 12 hrs overnight. Olivia also only has 26cm of small bowel, no large bowel and no ic valve. Olivia still has to wear nappies at bedtime and pull up pants during the day for school as she doesn't absorb as much and has explosive bowel movements.
Given what she has been through and still endures today, she is the most laid back, happiest wee girl and never let's anything get her down.
