Biography

Elijah was born 2 months premature after a fairly normal pregnancy. He was born with extensive damage to his skin and brain caused by a virus he caught in the womb (Herpes Simplex Virus). This has resulted in many further diagnosis throughout his life including complex epilepsy (since 5 months old) which causes him to have seizures on a daily basis. He is also registered blind (confirmed at 9 months old) but we think he has some light/dark vision as he always wakes up when I open the curtains in the morning!

Due to his brain damage his body does not follow the norms and he has an unusually low heart rate and temperature, meaning he is often hypothermic. He also has an oxygen requirement (since Jan 2021) following multiple chest infections and enlarged tonsils.

Elijah is considered life limited and is very medically fragile. He has just spent 2 months in hospital including a 2 week PICU admission but somehow manages to bounce back and is smiling again already. He is such a strong boy and takes all his hospital admissions (30+) in his stride.
