Biography

Dáithí was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and had open heart surgery at just 4 days old. Dáithí’s recovery from the surgery did not go as planned and he was given just a 10% chance of survival after being placed on ECMO. Dáithí had further open heart surgery at 10 days old and also suffered a stroke and NEC in his first few weeks of life.

Against all the odds, Dáithí pulled through and is now 6 years old. In June 2018 Dáithí was placed on the heart transplant waiting list and has been waiting for the gift of life since. In that time Dáithí and family started the Donate4Dáithí campaign to spread awareness of organ donation. Dáithí also helped change organ donation laws in Northern Ireland with the Health Minister announcing that the new law will be known as Dáithí’s Law.
