Hi Gaynor, Merlin's beautiful quilt arrived today! oh my gosh, Its beautiful! Merlin said "wow... My dinosaur" and then went to get all his plush dinosaurs ? but he doesn't want to pose for a photo!

Please pass on my sincere thanks and gratitude..I'm lost for words, all I can say is it's beautiful

And for the added wow....the back of the design actually matches his bedroom curtains and wallpaper we have brought ready to decorate his room!

Biography

Merlin has a complex heart condition called tricuspid atresia with transportation of the greater arteries, a vsd (hole in the heart) and pulmonary Stenosis.

Merlin spent the first 5 months of his life in hospital. During this time he had multiple surgical procedures and open heart surgery. His open heart surgery took around 7hrs to complete. During that time the surgeons combined both arteries and re-routed his blood circulation using a CP shunt. This is a temporary repair to give Merlin time to grow and develop through his infant years. Merlin will require further surgery when his heart begins to fail again. His next surgery will be a bigger procedure called the fontan.

Day to day Merlin struggles with energy levels as his 'normal' oxygen saturations are around 85% when resting. During activity Merlin's oxygen levels can drop to 70%. However, he is a typical 2 year old who loves to run around and climb. He doesn't yet understand his limits so tends to be quite clumsy during activity as there just isn't enough oxygen circulating his body.

Merlin struggles day to day with eating and gaining weight. He was fed via an Ng tube for the first 12 months of life. He now has a special diet and supplements to help him gain weight.

Merlin also struggles with sleeping due to poor blood circulation and tends to get leg cramps during the night.
