Biography

At birth doctors noticed Spencer had some unusual features and genetic tests were carried out after he failed to meet milestones. At 5 months of age he was diagnosed with trisomy 8 mosaicism. As he got older we became aware that he has vision & hearing problems along with speech difficulties and developmental delay.

During his first few years he was often ill with frequent fevers. During 2019 we began to notice the episodes of fevers were becoming more frequent and lasting longer and were accompanied with ulcers and skin lesions. Doctors believe this is caused by an inflammatory disorder, Behcet's syndrome. There is no cure but Spencer will soon be trying a medication which will hopefully reduce the symptoms.

Spencer also has problems with his platelets which require close monitoring and he has some skeletal problems which include scoliosis, vertebrae abnormalities and toe deformities. He is soon having surgery on his toes and may require further surgery in the future for these issues.
