Biography
Aysun was born in 2014, pretty standard birth, no major complications. She excelled at all her developmental checks. She had the usual illnesses when she joined nursery but nothing out of the ordinary.
In August 2016 she woke up one morning and randomly vomited even though she hadn't eaten yet, her walking became quite strange, she didn't always walk in a straight line and became very wobbly on her feet even though she had been walking for over a year.
I took her to the GP who advised it was a viral infection and it would clear up on its own, no medication prescribed. This dragged on for several weeks, numerous visits to GP, out of hours and hospital visits. All of which resulted in me being told it was viral and it would clear up on its own.
After approximately 7 weeks and countless times seeing various doctors I was referred to Wishaw General. We saw 3 separate doctors who all said it was a viral infection, it would clear up on its own, but this time I refused to take this as an answer and demanded someone tell me what was wrong.
Aysun was referred to Royal Hospital for an MRI, the scan was scheduled for 8th November 2016. She had her scan and we were given the news she had a tumour and had to be taken for immediate surgery to insert a drain to relieve pressure and drain fluid. Her tumour removal was scheduled for 15th November, we never left the hospital. Aysun was admitted to ward 3a, the nurses and doctors were amazing. Aysun underwent a 9 hour operation to have the tumour removed. She was transferred to ICU where she only spent 1 night and was then transferred back to ward 3a. She had to be taught how to walk again, she stopped napping and no longer relied on a dummy.
She was so brave and strong through numerous CAT scans, MRIs, blood tests, injections, she took it all in her stride. She coped well, never complained and for a 2 year old she was amazing.
She was discharged from hospital on Monday 12th December however this was very short lived. When we returned home, her head continued to swell and she cried in pain. Aysun was readmitted back to ward 3a less than 7 days after we left. She underwent another major surgery to have a shunt inserted to deal with hydrocephalus and was discharged again 3 days after her secondary surgery.
Aysun went for MRI scans every 3 months, we plodded along for 18 months on a pretty good recovery being closely monitored by oncology and neuro. Sadly in April 2018 we were told Aysun`s tumour had returned and she would need further surgery to remove the secondary tumour.
During the last almost 7 years, Aysun has grown into a beautiful young lady, she is kind, determined and doesn't let anything stand in her way. She struggles at school and requires additional support.
We are currently awaiting an imminent date for her next major surgery for next tumour removal. Aysun is a strong independent young girl who makes her family proud every day with how she deals with all her ongoing troubles.
