Biography
I was 42 when we fell pregnant and couldn’t wait to meet our baby. On 5th August 2016 I had a scare, not feeling kicks, and was told our baby had to be born asap due to extra fluid around her. They were worried her lungs would fill. On 8th August we had a beautiful girl via c-section as she was breech.
I decided to breastfeed but after a couple of weeks the midwife said Heidi was down 14% on her birth weight and I was admitted back to hospital. After feeding her on formula and expressing there was little weight gain. The prick test was taken twice and from this we had a call from Great Ormond Street Hospital assuming Heidi had CF. Both my husband and I knew nothing of this condition and asked Google. We both wish we hadn’t as the diagnosis was bleak. We were heartbroken hearing the doctor confirm Heidi had a life threatening condition. We cried for days but we understood what our baby needed and we did all we had to. Physio everyday, medicine when she eats/milk and any signs of coughs/colds we send cough swabs to the hospital.
We are 8 years on, still doing physio, using a nebuliser and an Acapella and taking more tablets, one being the wonder drug Kaftrio which has made such a difference and given us hope her life expectancy will be extended and live a normal life!
