The quilt arrived today and she absolutely loves it, she wasted no time in snuggling down on it, she pointed to the teddies and signed bear and thank you, so to all involved in making this beautiful quilt a big Thank you from us all!

Biography

AW failed to thrive as feeding from a bottle was a big effort for her and difficult for her to co-ordinate so she had a NG feeding tube fitted. She spent the first 9 weeks of life in special care and then HDU as she had 2 bouts of bronchitis and needed assistance with her breathing. AW’s chest is vulnerable and she has had another stay in HDU since her discharge.

AW is slowly hitting milestones but has been very delayed. She has recently had her cleft palate repaired which was a big operation as the hole was bigger than expected. She is now awaiting eye surgery.

It is unclear if AW can’t speak due to her oral defects or if she is non-verbal due to neurodiverse issues. AW is in foster care as her parents wouldn’t have coped with her complex medical needs. Adoption is also proving difficult with her range of needs and the uncertainty of any underlying/undiagnosed issues. Her future is very unclear both medically and socially. For now she will be staying with us in foster care.
