Biography

Luc is a 13 year old boy who has had to give up his love of sports after battling his muscle disease for many years; it's finally taken over. It's been a really hard year for this teenager to come to terms with his disability. Never has he complained or given up . Instead we need to learn a different path and try new things he can succeed at. Luc is always helping others and has a beautiful selfless soul but a sadness about him too.

Born a healthy boy, our 1st child, we began to notice something wasn't quite right just after he turned 2 . Always a bright independent soul very mature for his early years like he had been here before .
He struggled to get up out of his chair at circle time at nursery. Couldn't put on his shoes anymore . He became more quiet than usual .

At 1st we were told it was growing pains he will be fine, but mother's instinct knew different . After a year we were finally referred to hospital as he slowly became worse .

It took two years to get diagnosis because myotonia is a hidden disability. Children look well but struggle on the inside . It's like carrying twice your weight around and without energy . One minute you can run and the next minute a movement makes you fall flat on your face . It effects your self esteem because you don't understand your own body. One minute you can chew and suddenly you can't swallow. Not knowing how your body will react one minute to the next. We as his parents have always maintained we would never treat him differently and help Luc achieve anything he wants but as he has gotten older and the dislocations have started Luc has had to give up his most loved sport .He can no longer keep up with his peers. His mobility has declined . This is very hard for a teenager to accept and is currently struggling with his self esteem . Thank you so much for the kind offer of a quilt. It will be loved hugely and will be of great comfort whilst in hospital xx
