Thank you

A huge sigh of relief after Reece’s quilt was delivered to the wrong address and they then passed it on to their neighbour thinking it was for them but we have it now.

And we cannot thank you all enough for all your hard work as it’s absolutely beautiful and Reece and myself will have lots of snuggles together under the quilt.
It’s so lovely seeing where all the squares are from.
Reece’s quilt will be treasured so thank you all

Biography

Reece was born healthy and was a happy and content baby.

He was hitting all his milestones and was a typical wee boy always on the go and up to mischief.

At 2 we noticed changes in Reece’s behaviour and his speech was slower than we would have liked so we were referred to Speech and Language Therapy. This was the start of lots of appointments and assessments.

In January 2017 Reece had his first ever seizure while he was at nursery and this resulted in an overnight stay in hospital but the seizure was written off as they could find no cause or reason. And we weren’t too concerned.

In February 2017 Reece was diagnosed as autistic but we got on with life the best we could.

Reece continued to have seizures and by early 2018 Reece was having clusters of up to 8 seizures at a time and was needing hospital treatment on a regular basis.
Because of this we were referred for another EEG which picked up seizure activity so we then went for an MRI scan which picked up further issues so more tests were needed, bloods were taken and at the end of July 2018 we got the awful news that Reece had a rare disease and he would need an eye exam to rule out certain conditions.

Reece’s eye exam in August showed that Reece was severely sight impaired and it confirmed that Reece had Batten's disease.
Since diagnosis Reece has changed so much. Our once happy cheeky boy who was always on the go running about and playing on his trampoline is now unable to walk. Reece is completely blind, has a Peg feeding tube, weekly seizures and many other health issues.
