Biography

Jack was developing like any other child, he rolled over at 16 weeks and was happy and smiley. Jack was admitted into hospital with a viral infection and he seemed to lose all that he had learned. I knew that something wasn’t quite right when he wasn’t trying to reach out for anything, wouldn’t hold a cup/spoon and wasn’t even trying to sit up at 10 months old. I was told by the health visitors that I was paranoid and needed to just enjoy him.
With Jack’s first birthday approaching I insisted I wanted him referring as I knew something was amiss. Jack was referred and we saw a paediatrician just days before his 1st birthday and it all went from there. Jack was referred for genetic testing and it was 3 years before we got a diagnosis. Just months after diagnosis Jack started to have seizures and has been admitted straight into resus on numerous occasions. Jack’s epilepsy is still not under control.

Jack is fully dependent on adults for all of his needs. He is doubly incontinent, can’t feed himself and in non-verbal. He is a wheelchair user however, he can take independent steps but gets tired easily and is a little unsteady but he can do it. He can drink from a feeder cup and is always so happy and smiley.
