Cap Gemini We were nominated in the CapGemini Community Spirit Awards by our stitcher Christina McDonald and were awarded £500! A very welcome boost to our funds. Massive thank you to Christina for doing this for us! Star Wars and Harry Potter Fabric Longer time members may remember that Gaynor used to bring back hundreds of yards with her from holidays in the USA. We have things mostly sorted with the UK wholesalers these days, but when Nicola Bailey went to the USA recently and offered to bring fabric back, we asked her to bring Star Wars and Harry Potter. Look at all the lovely fabric she's brought back, a big thank you, Nicola! Ecclesiastical Giving Thank you very much to everyone who nominated us and shared on Facebook for Ecclesiastical Giving Movement For Good Awards where 500 charities will be awarded £1000. We are waiting for the awards to be announced from Monday 3rd June - Friday 14th June, so keep your fingers crossed for us! Announcement link here Knots in squares We posted on our Facebook group lately about avoiding using knots to start/finished threads for squares - the post is below so we can reach those not on Facebook: "Kat and I have been having increasing reports from the quilters about squares with knots to start/finish a piece of thread. This is fine if you're doing a picture for framing, but when a square takes its place in a quilt it gets moved around a lot, washed etc and the knots will eventually work themselves through and unravel the design :( Our quilters have been buying iron-on vilene at personal expense and installing it on the back of squares to try to mitigate this. When starting/ending a square you could pass your thread through the back of 4-5 stitches and then back through 3-4 to secure it. You can also start using the loop method which is in the linked video below. Let's try to avoid knots - more secure, less lumpy and no vilene required! Win-win-win! :)" You Tube link to loop start method Volunteers Week 2019 It's Volunteers Week 2019 from 1st-7th June! Kat and Gaynor often think about how generous all our stitchers, quilters, fundraisers and supporters are - so much work goes on week in, week out, for over 10 years now. We like to think that LQUK shows the best of volunteering - people from across the world coming together, not for payment, but for the joy of helping children in our small way.. We are very proud of the LQUK community and think you're all fantastic! Happy Volunteers Week 2019! Square News We have received 212 squares since our last update!
