LoveQuilts UK News
2017 Review of the YearWelcome to our review of 2017! We have all been very busy stitching and quilting again this year - we are now well over 12,000 squares and we also passed the 900 quilt mark. THANK YOU to every single one of you who have donated your fab squares, quilted them together into lovely quilts, or fundraised for us this year. We thank you for your generosity in donating your time, materials, skills and kindness :) Here are some statistics on what we have achieved this year: Total squares received in 2017: 2089 squares A massive thanks to those have sent in both sign-up and Any Child Squares this year! Total quilts delivered in 2017: 189 quilts (10 of these were emergency quilts and 55 were backfilled quilts) Another massive thanks to our quilters for putting these quilts together! The backfilled quilts were made with squares from our Any Child Stash. We'd like to thank those who have completed labels for backfilled quilts this year, often turning them around in a couple of days at short notice, to make the extra 55 quilts possible. Our overall total of quilts now stands at 948 quilts since 2008. We are well on the way to 1,000 quilts so a massive thank you to everyone involved! We have few areas that we would like to mention specifically: Fundraising We cannot thank those who have undertaken fundraising for us this year enough - we really could not keep going without you! There are so many to mention, we would be afraid of leaving anyone out - so here's a big THANK YOU for you all!! Kat Kat has dealt with a massive number of squares this year, despite having a full-time job with very long hours, well done Kat for keeping everything in order! Gaynor Gaynor has continued her efforts in sourcing fabric, doing the administration and maintaining the website. Well done, Gaynor. Mrs T Mrs T (Gaynor's Mum) has washed the majority of the fabric and duvet covers used for LQUK once again this year, before sending out to quilters. Thank you Mrs T for your largely unseen efforts! Emergency Quilts Many thanks to Leanda and Heather for continuing to store the emergency quilt stash and sending them out quickly. Also thanks to the others who are storing emergency quilts they have made. Cards Thank you to Sandra and Debbie who organise the cards we send out with the quilts via our Facebook group and to everyone who has stitched cards this year! Pattern charters We have permission from a small number of copyright holders to chart their designs for LoveQuilts use. We'd like to thank those talented people who have created much needed patterns for areas including (but not limited to!) Superheroes and Princesses. Many thanks to all involved in creating patterns for LQUK! Auditor We'd like to thank Jean of Swansea who very kindly audited our accounts for free at the beginning of 2017. We'd also like to thank David Moss of Swansea for assisting with our bank account. Donations of thread Thank you very much to those who have donated thread to us this year, for distriubtion to stitchers. It is very much appreciated :) Prize Draw Thank you to Cath Willey who ran an Any Child Square drive with a prize from April to August! Stamps Thank you to those who have sent in used stamps with their squares. We receive an occasional cheque of £10-15 - every little helps! Gift Aid Thank you to everyone who has sent their Gift Aid declaration in. EasyFundraising.org.uk We have raised an average of £40/month from Easyfundraising this year - thanks so much to everyone who remembered to visit them before shopping on the Internet, it really does mount up! Support from Businesses A big thank you to Morton Post Office in Lincolnshire for their continuing support in 2017 - always a cheerful smile and a chat and £1 off every parcel for LQUK. Thank you very much! Thank you Katzstitch who have catered to LQUK stitchers by selling Aida in our required size (13 x 13 inches) and offering a discount on top. Thank you also to Kim Hubble who has offered discount Aida via our Facebook group. We are grateful to BTMyDonate and Just Text Giving from Vodafone for allowing us to accept credit/debit card and SMS donations for free. Magazine Appearances This year we appeared in Cross Stitch Crazy magazine (March 2017) Thank you to Cross Stitch Crazy for their interest in us! In Memoriam We would like to pay tribute to the children who have received quilts who sadly passed away in 2017. They are in our thoughts and we send their families our very best wishes and hope that 2018 will bring them happier times. And finally... No year review would be complete without taking a look back on the quilts that were delivered this year. So much time and effort has gone into the following quilts, thank you so much to everyone who contributed to them! Let's have a look at what we achieved this year!
Once again, a very big thank you to you all. Quite simply, LQUK would not exist without the generosity and skills of all our supporters. We look forward to continuing the LQUK work into 2018. A Happy New Year to you all! Washing Squares We've noticed that the number of unwashed squares coming in is starting to creep up again - could we ask everyone to please :) make the effort to wash them before sending them in. It helps so much in organising the quilt packs and sending them out to the quilters, and therefore on to the children, on time. It doesn't take long if everyone washes their own, but it does take ages for Kat to wash and dry dozens of unwashed squares, and it can delay things quite a bit if squares come in right on the deadline unwashed! Knots in squares Apart from French knots, there shouldn't be any knots in squares. We have noticed a few squares coming in like this - please don't tie a knot, instead pass your thread through the back of 3-4 existing stitches, and back through 1-2 stitches (ask on our Facebook group if unsure). Quilters are increasingly having to secure ends with sticky interfacing - we really need all ends to be secure as the quilts will be washed many times during their lifetime and we don't want the lovely cross-stitch designs unravelling! BT blocking our emails If you have a BT email address, you may have noticed we've been a bit quiet lately - this is because BT have been blocking our email address! After 8 weeks of appealing to them, they have finally lifted the block (many thanks to Jill Smith who helped us a lot with this!). There are many other addresses still being blocked by BT, however. Fundraising Stamps Just a reminder that we're still collecting stamps - if you have a few, just pop them in with your squares. Don't send them on their own as we don't get much money for them, so it wouldn't be worth the postage. However, it doesn't cost anything to pop a few in with a square as they're so light and they mount up over time. Easyfundraising We are still having a fair amount of money coming in from Easyfundraising.org.uk - many thanks to everyone who is helping us in this way when shopping online! For further details, please see here: Easyfundraising.org.uk Square News We have received 236 squares since our last update! Amazing! Many thanks to all those who stitched them!
