appreciated x 2013 Review of the YearWelcome to our review of 2013. This was the sixth year of LQUK - how time is flying by! It has once again been an excellent year! We started the year with Kat still undergoing chemotherapy and Gaynor and Mrs T holding the LoveQuiltsUK fort in Swansea. Thank you to Mrs T for receiving and uploading the squares to the website during this time. Kat finished chemotherapy around March and is back with us at LQUK, continuing on her way back to full health. :) We have welcomed many new stitchers and several new quilters this year - and a huge number of our established stitchers and quilters have continued to support us. It really does feel like "one big happy family"! More cross-stitchers took the plunge into the quilting world and now quilt for us too! We have completed a record-breaking 81 quilts this year (up from 77 last year). The total is actually a bit higher as we have also have 11 emergency quilts completed and ready to go out when requests come in. Thank you so much for the thousands of hours that have been put in to the quilts this year - it really is humbling what time and effort is put into the squares and the quilting by stitchers all around the world, including USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and all over the UK. THANK YOU ALL!!! Fundraising Fundraising is an often unseen part of our work but absolutely vital. Without fundraising we would not be able to buy fabric for our quilts, post the squares out to the quilters and the quilts to the children or meet the costs of running the website. We are so grateful to everyone who sends in donations big and small - even a few pounds here and there soon adds up. As we continue to expand the number of quilts we are making each month (currently 8-9), fundraising also has to expand to keep up. We would like to single out a few individuals whose fundraising efforts have made a huge difference to LQUK this year with some fundraising events this year. We cannot tell you what an impact your efforts have had and have really eased some financial headaches for Gaynor and Katherine. They are:
Although we have singled some people out above, we must stress we are grateful for ALL donations - big and small :) Every penny counts - as a well-known supermarket is fond of saying - and every penny raised goes straight into the running of LQUK. We are all volunteers so LQUK has few overheads. Gift Aid Gift Aid brought in £317 for donations received in 2012 - well worth the administrative effort! If you are a tax-payer, you are eligible for Gift Aid - it does not affect your tax return in any way - you just need to fill in a form and we reclaim the money directly from HMRC. Please contact us if you think you are eligible :) Auditor Thank you so much to Jean in Swansea who audited our accounts for free again this year - thank you Jean!!! Support from Businesses We would like to particularly thank Lee Mill Fabrics in Swansea for offering LQUK a discount on cotton fabrics this year and Katzstitch who have catered to LQUK stitchers by selling Aida in our required size (13 x 13 inches) and offering a discount on top. We'd also like to thank Patchwork Parade in Manchester who run a class which had a Quiltathon for us, putting together four emergency quilts for our stocks. Thank you very much for your support, it is really appreciated and gratefully accepted. We are also grateful to BTMyDonate and Just Text Giving form Vodafone for allowing us to accept credit/debit card and SMS donations for free. Magazine Appearances We appeared in Cross Stitch Crazy Issue 177 and World of Cross Stitching Issue 203! - our magazine fame continues!! Thank you to these publications for the exposure. Cards We started a side-project to create a small cross-stitch card to put in with each quilt - thank you to Sandra and Debbie for organising this via our Facebook group. In Memoriam Sadly, a few of the children we have donated quilts to passed away in 2013 :( We would like to pay tribute to: Alice P, Jamie J, Henry A, Cody M, Louise G, Elizabeth A and John-Paul. Rest in peace, little ones. Meet-up Several of our stitchers held a meet in Manchester and spent some happy hours getting to know each other in person. We are glad that LQUK could bring you together! Squares received in 2013 Total squares received in 2013: 2546 squares! Wow - what a fantastic total. Thank you so much to everyone who sent in squares this year for your hard work and commitment :) Quilts completed in 2013 Finally - what we are all about, delivering quilts to children and creating smiles! That brings our overall total to 255 quilts since 2008. What a lot of hard work. Well done, everyone!
